Clinical Instructor

Diane E. Smith, Au.D., CCC-A is an Audiology Clinical Instructor in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.  Dr. Smith came to the audiology profession along a non-traditional path.  She served ten years in the United States Air Force, starting out as an enlisted Intelligence Analyst before she was later selected to earn her commissioning and served as an Intelligence Officer.  During her service, Dr. Smith deployed three times to Iraq and Afghanistan, providing intelligence support to coalition and NATO forces.  Her service finally led her to Davis Monthan AFB (Tucson, AZ) where she completed her military tenure and began a new professional journey in audiology.  She completed her Doctorate in Audiology at the University of Arizona and externship at the Mayo Clinic Arizona.  In addition to clinically instructing on campus, Dr. Smith serves as the lead vestibular audiologist at the Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Neurological Institute where she also mentors University of Arizona audiology students as a clinical preceptor.
